The Storm lends a hand to the 4th Annual Simon Evening of Giving

The Kansas City Storm was in attendance at the 4th Annual Simon Evening of Giving to help raise money for many local charities and non-profit organizations. Also in attendance were nearly 60 other local charities and nearly 10,000 attendees from the Kansas City area. The event took place at Independence Center, Sunday, November 20th and included a festive night of private shopping designed to benefit local charities and reward consumers with retailer offers, gifts with purchase, prizes, refreshments and entertainment. Kansas City Storm players contributed to the evening by donating game tickets for the raffle and assisting the shoppers throughout the evening.

Held annually for over a decade on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving, Simon Evening of Giving raises millions of dollars benefiting some
2,300 charities. Simon Evening of Giving attendees each purchase a
ticket from a participating charity (generally $10), 100 percent of
which goes to support charities which range from area food banks, to hospitals, to member organizations of the United Way. A portion of the funds raised also supports the Simon Youth Foundation(R), a nonprofit educational organization that assists at-risk students complete their high school degree and even pursue an advanced education. Mall retailers overwhelmingly embrace Simon Evening of Giving, with nearly 100 percent participation. This year's event was the biggest ever as sponsors - Entercom radio family which includes 98.1 KUDL, 99.7 KY and 106.5 WDAF and The Examiner - helped corral GREAT family entertainment, a true "Man's Zone" that included a beer garden and a Texas Hold 'em Tournament and a prize/silent auction zone.


Storm Supports Toys for Tots

The Kansas City Storm is teaming up with staff from the Ameristar Casino to help with their annual coed flag football game against the Marines to support Toys for Tots. The fundraiser game will be played at Blue Springs High School (2000 NW Ashton Drive) on Saturday, November 12 at noon. Admission to the game is $10, a new toy, or a gift certificate to Toys-R-Us. The Ameristar/Storm team will also have some local celebrities playing, including former Chief’s players.

Leading up to the game on the 12th, there will be other opportunities to see your favorite Storm players out in the community. November 9th we will be working at both BD’s Mongolian BBQ locations (Overland Park and Independence, www.bdsmongolianbbq.com for directions) and all tips will be going to Toys for Tots. On Friday, November 11th, Storm players will be hitting the streets early with the Fox 4 News Morning Show to take in donations from morning commuters, so don’t forget to tune in.


Storm Teams Up With Third And Long Foundation

The Kansas City Storm donated tickets to the Derrick Thomas' Third and Long Foundation so that the children could attend a Wizards game. Mike McInerney from the Third and Long Foundation extended his appreciation to the Storm for their generosity. "Field trips, like attending a Wizards game, provide the kids the opportunity to attend a professional soccer game while helping to develop their social skills."

“The Storm is very proud to support the efforts of the Third and Long foundation and the legacy of Derrick Thomas,” said Nance Wernes, owner of the Kansas City Storm. “High risk children need our attention and assistance to help provide a clear path to a productive life.” This is not the first time the Storm has stepped up to help the Kansas City community, last fall the Storm teamed up with local radio personalities to raise money for Toys for Tots. The Storm is working on a number of charity events in the upcoming months and plans to be very active in the Kansas City community.


Kansas City Storm participated in Kansas Shrine Bowl at Kansas State
K-State Stadium
The Kansas City Storm teamed with the Kansas Shriners to support the 2005 Kansas All-Star Shrine Bowl Football game in Manhattan, Kansas, on July 30. (http://www.ksshrine.com/index.htm) The game was played on Wagner Field at KSU Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM. The Kansas City Storm added to the festivities by playing an inter-squad
scrimmage prior to the game for the expected 8-12 thousand fans. After the scrimmage team members were available for autographs and photos. The Storm is proud to be a part of this exciting and worthwhile event. KC Storm brings down WHB-810 Dynasty in 2004 Turkey Bowl !!
The ladies of the KC Storm in conjunction with 97.3 the Planet, took home the Turkey Bowl trophy Thursday night by beating the undefeated 810am WHB in the fifth annual Turkey Bowl.

The team battled to a 30-26 end with Storm quarterback AJ Thomas running out the clock after a Storm interception in the end zone to end the final 810 drive.

The annual game took place Nov. 11th at Rockhurst High School and benefited Harvesters, Toys for Tots, and the Salvation Army. Kim Kastilahn took away the Most Valuable Player award for her defensive dominance. The KC Storm was grateful for the opportunity to play and thanks Sport Radio 810 and the Planet.
