The
Kansas City Storm will honor Kara Dowell at their upcoming game
May 28 at St. Pius X High School. Kara plays guard on her White
City Kansas high school football team. Last season, White City
High School was to play a game against St. Mary’s Academy.
But when the St. Mary’s team realized that White City
would be fielding a girl, the team said it would forfeit the
game rather than play against a girl.
Kara, offered to sit the game out. But her teammates at White
City High School voted unanimously that if she didn’t
play, then the whole team wouldn’t play. So no one played,
and St. Mary’s Academy lost by forfeit, a disappointing
solution for a team with a limited game schedule.
Kara will be honored during pre game festivities, joining Storm
team captains on the field for the coin toss and be interviewed
at half time. |
