Women's
Football Playoffs Are Nail biters
June 28, 2004 - The National Women's Football Association's
first round of play-offs ended up with some nail biting
games. In the Northern Conference, the Columbus Comets beat
the Mass Mutiny in a down to the wire battle 7-6. With just
over a minute to go, the Mutiny scored but the Comets blocked
the after TD kick to hold on to a victory. The SW Michigan
Jaguars, which made it for the first time to the playoffs
pulled out a victory over the Philadelphia Phoenix 26-6.
In the Southern Conference, the Kansas City Krunch, which
also made it to the playoffs for the first time, took on
a veteran team, the Nashville Dream and won 20-19! The Pensacola
Power showed why it's been in the championships two for
the past three years with a convincing 60-0 shutout over
the Asheville Assault.
"We've got some new teams this year in contention and
with the results of this past weekend, it looks like just
about anyone can win," states league CEO, Catherine
Masters.
The next round of playoffs are on July 10th. The SW Michigan
Jags travel to Washington, DC to take on the DC Divas and
the Columbus Comets head to Detroit to take on the two time
world champions, The Detroit Demolition. The Chattanooga
Locomotion hosts the Pensacola Power and the KC Krunch travels
to Oklahoma City to take on the OKC Lightning.
The final round of playoffs will be held July 17th with
the winners advancing to the 4th World Championship of Women's
Football on July 31st in Louisville at the Papa John's Cardinal
Stadium.
