WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
TEAM GEARS UP FOR SEASON OPENER
The Denton Stampede,
one of the 37 teams in the National Women's Football Association,
is suited up and ready to kick off it's 2004 season on April
3, 2004.
The Stampede will host
the KC Krunch. The game will begin at 7pm. For tickets and
directions to the stadium, please visit the stampede website
at www.dentonstampede.com.
Sarah Sweeney, owner
of the Stampede says her team is ready to play and ready
to show the fans just how good women's full contact football
can be.
"We're excited
to be starting our 4th season and know that our fans around
the country will be out in force supporting their favorite
teams.
The NWFA, which is the
largest league in the world for women's football has an
impressive track record with over a half a million fans
attending games around the country, a website that receives
between one and 3 million hits monthly and media attention
that covers the spectrum from the Tonight Show with Jay
Leno to the New York Times and NBC.
And, while the 2004
season is starting, the NWFA is already looking ahead to
the 2005 season and licensing teams in new cities including
Cincinnati, Louisville and the Antelope Valley in California.
Former NFL and Bengal star, Ickey Woods recently purchased
the license for the Cincinnati team and joins top world
champion boxer, Roy Jones, Jr., one of the owners in the
league.
