It took more than 60
minutes for the Oklahoma City Lightning to beat the Kansas
City Krunch 19-18 in a National Women's Football Association
game late Saturday at Taft Stadium.
Krystal Nayphe scored the tying touchdown, and Lacey Schulz
kicked the winning point-after in the second overtime before
an estimated 350 spectators. Oklahoma City improved to 2-0.
Kansas City had missed a point-after kick in the second
overtime, giving them an 18-12 lead.
After two carries from Nayphe netted 5 yards, and a quarterback
draw from Kim Mitchell gained 3, the Lightning scored on
fourth down from the 2-yard line.
"Having Rochelle (Ware) in there blocking for me and
opening up those holes was why I was successful running,"
said Nayphe, who also scored a TD in the first overtime.
Defensively, cornerback Erika Briseno intercepted two passes
for Oklahoma City, which next plays May 10 at St. Louis.
